Honoring films released in the USA in 2011.
The emotionally charged, exquisitely crafted Iranian family drama A Separation tops this year’s ICS slate with 10 nominations, followed by master filmmaker Raoul Ruiz’s swan song Mysteries of Lisbon, which has 9. Neo-noir thriller Drive keeps it harsh but cool with 7 nods, sharing that distinction with Terrence Malick’s poetic reconciliation The Tree of Life. Meanwhile, a much-sought-after pair of smaller films, Weekend and Margaret, rushed our ballots late in a strong showing despite limited visibility. All the last-minute jostling has been worth it, though, giving us quite an eclectic list this year.
Winners of the 9th ICS Awards will be announced on February 21, 2012.
