Another Venice Film Festival in COVID times is behind us, sadly. Facemasks, test hubs, theaters at half capacity, yet the festival was still a success because of a great selection of film, stimulating discussions, an Aperol Spritz or two (these helped with the discussions!), and great weather.
Hopefully you have been following our ICS critics grid on Twitter (you do follow us on Twitter, right?), but our final scores are something to preserve for posterity, in particular because Audrey Diwan’s L’Événement, the eventual Golden Lion winner, was chosen by our panelists as the best film of the Competition too, and essentially already days ago. With Jane Campion’s Best Director-winning The Power of the Dog coming in second place, it is safe to say that the insights of our panelists were in line with the general consensus that these were among the best films on the Lido this year.
A big thanks to all our panelists who had to put up with our constant badgering for scores. Hope to see you on the Lido again next year!
