In extremely close voting on a wealth of fine films at Cannes this year, the ICS chart below reflects a different winner from our Cannes awards, where nine attending members selected Xavier Dolan’s Mommy for the Palme d’Or. The five ICS members participating in this chart, however, ranked Olivier Assayas’ brilliant Sils Maria in the top spot, followed by actual Palme winner Winter Sleep. Next in the rankings (just barely) came the Dardennes’ Deux jours, une nuit, and then Le meraviglie. At our ICS awards, Sils Maria also took Best Actress (Juliette Binoche, in a tie with Julianne Moore) and Screenplay, yet it failed to score anything from the Cannes jury. An embarrassment of riches, one might say.
